Previously, her singing had been limited to the Gilberto kitchen or nursery and her husband, Joao, had been the singer in the family. Now she is a full-fledged vocal star with a following all of her own and a style completely hers. She has absolute command of bossa nova songs, and creates fresh and incisive renditions of American popular songs. This album is Astrud’s third.
Bookman Bold Swash, mainly in its slanted Italic style, is used throughout, applying swash alts with little restraint on the album cover. Design by Acy Lehman, with photography by Joe Elkins.
