  1. This post focuses of the typography of the jacket and the title page, but make sure to check out the interior pages as well. They are illustrated by Ruth and James McCrea. After they met at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, the two “have worked together as writers, designers, and illustrators ever since. They operate their own press, The Little Press, from the basement of their own home.” [Archives and Special Collections, Elmer L. Andersen Library]

See the blog posts by Fishink and Princeton’s Graphic Arts Collection for some of their work. The Ismar David Archive shares three of their Christmas cards. There, Ruth Pirman McCrea (1921–2016) is described as graphic artist, illustrator, author; and James (1920–2013) as graphic artist and typographer. James also taught typography at Cooper Union. The Cockroaches book doesn’t explicitly mention a typographer, but it’s likely that the McCreas take credit for the type choices, too.
